Life can be pretty stressful in Singapore. What with the fast pace, the high cost of living, the competition, the many obligations we all have, etc. Are we putting emphasis and energy on the right priorities in our life? How can we have a healthy living SG? I used to focus all my energies on running my own food manufacturing business for 8 years and only in later years of my business that I started to take a step back and explore my “other” life and I realised life is so much more and I am not getting younger. Thus, we are increasingly aware of the need to lead a healthier and happier life and moving towards that.
Healthy living in Singapore seems tough for a lot of people who do not cook, or are too busy with work to exercise. Work is important, but so is family or friend's time and being healthy. Times that make you happy. So how do we balance out? Simple steps like spending time with family eating healthy and tasty food (yes, healthy can be tasty too), and exercising together. It is sad that most people spend way too much time wondering pointlessly in malls to while time away. Not only can this be expensive, it is also very mind numbing to a certain extent.
How about picking a sport that everyone can grow to love together like cycling, rock climbing, running, badminton or swimming? Or explore different activities together? There is so much possibilities out there! Many of us complain about how "boring" Singapore is and how there are only malls, restaurants and cinemas. Well, Singapore is as interesting as your imagination! In a way, at least pokemon go (not a fan) has made people step out of their usual home and mall routine to go to the parks and spend some time with family and friends or talking to strangers. So step out there! There are so many parks in Singapore, so many activities. Go for a cooking class together, or a gardening workshop or rear some fishes. Go fishing, prawning, or take a walk in our many parks and nature reserves.
If all your friends can do with you is to sit over coffee and gossip (therapeutic and bonding once in a while, but boring after a while) then maybe it is time to find friends with more passions in life. Having a healthy lifestyle is not just about eating well, but being engaged in the community, with friends, with hobbies, as well as nourishing your mind (besides work and study) with other forms of nourishment like music, plays, art, good literature, new skills and developing a well balance of interest. Because one day, your job will be gone and what will that leave you?
Everyone will die, but not everyone can say that they have lived. What is your definition of "living"? When is the last time you stepped out of your comfort zone to push your limits? To know what you can achieve and what you are capable of? To experience life beyond a daily routine that is the same for the past 10 years?
Healthy Living is not only about staying safe and healthy physically, but developing your mind, body and soul in a healthy manner. Building strong minds, passions and balance. It is about being happy.
Everyone perceives “healthy living” differently. We can’t claim to be the healthiest or has the healthiest lifestyle or to claim that we are healthier than anyone. We are just trying to be healthier than before and I think that is a great start! As we share our journey towards a healthier lifestyle and hope that you will share your journey with us as well through the comments you leave us. Everything we share here is just our humble opinions or from our own experience, so please do not take it as the gospel absolute truth of the universe.
